In the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Amen

Honorable Mr. Teacher!

By calling on God in our regular congregational meeting you have been called for the second time; we are returning to you the vocational document of the Evangelical Lutheran Kreuz (Cross) congregation at Warda in hopes of nourishing you and with your sincere examination in the light of the Word of God. Our reasons are:

The Kreuz Church has conquered such a difficult battle with the school, that it would not be advisable to call a totally strange teacher.

You have been informed from both sides about the very difficult conditions and can understand our position without losing courage and endurance. As you have cordially been recommended by the honorable chair of the church, whom our congregation knows, as he has led our congregation for 5 years as its pastor, we believe it is impossible that he would ill advise us.

Pastor Birkmann is so blessed with godly gifts, that by your leaving his congregation the school would not suffer to any large extent; however, this happens here at Warda, where the undersigned is not totally efficient in teaching [I think this is what the letter says, but I could not read the remaining words to make a direct translation.]

The honorable chair of the congregation at Fedor has already proposed a suitable teacher, so that the Lutheran congregation at Fedor could soon be well staffed.

Finally we wish to appeal to your conscience. Will you, which we hope by God’s will, in our calling of you as our teacher, include prayer to God, compare our circumstances and conditions to yours at your dear church and consider the danger of a splitting of our congregation. If you should decline the calling, you will need to realize that our calling of you is done through God, the Lord, the Shepherd of the Church, which wants to see you in its midst.

The prospect for you is not peaceful and lazy days in the future, but work and labor will be your destiny. Your gifts and strength will be used to honor God, the salvation of eternal souls, and the blessed growth of this flourishing congregation in Jesus Christ.

We kindly ask, that you will reconsider the above mentioned reasons of the Lutheran congregation.

It is not our intent to lead a sister congregation into a difficult situation. We want to follow the lead of God. For the sake of God’s grace we ask this kind congregation will let you come to this church in peace.

We hope that you will be among us soon. May it be God’s will.

Geehrter Herr Lehrer!

Unter brünstiger Anrufung Gottes wurden Sie heute in ordentlicher Gemeindeversammlung zum zweiten Mal berufen; und wird Ihnen hiermit das Vocations Schreiben der evangelischen lutherischen Kreuz Gemeinde zu Warda zu nähren und ernstlicher Prüfung im Lichte des Wortes Gottes zurückgesandt, und zwar aus folgenden Gründen:

Die Kreuz Kirche hat einen so schweren verhängnisvollen Schulkampf bestanden, dass es nicht geraten wäre, uns einen gänzlich fremden Lehrer zu berufen.

Sind Sie einigermassen von unseren so höchst schwierigen Verhältnissen von beiden Seiten unterrichtet worden und konnten sich deshalb ohne sogleich Mut und Ausdauer zu verlieren, darein versetzen.Da Sie uns von dem ehrwürdigen Präses (Vorsitzender der Gemeinde) so warm empfohlen wurden, welchen unsere Gemeinde genau kennt, da er selbst 5 Jahre als Pastor derselben vorgestanden, so kann er uns unmöglich zum Schaden der Gemeinde beraten haben.

Herr Pastor Birkmann ist von Gott mit so herrlichen Gaben ausgerüstet, dass durch Ihren Wegzug die Gemeindeschule keinen wesentlichen Schaden nehmen wuerde, welches aber hier wirklich geschieht, zumal der ……..

Hat auch der ehrwürdige Vorsitzende der Gemeinde zu Fedor schon einen geeigneten Lehrer vorgeschlagen, so dass die lutherische Gemeinde zu Fedor bald wieder versorgt sein könnte.

Zum Schluss müssen wir noch an Ihr Gewissen appellieren. Werden Sie, was wir zu Gott hoffen, den Beruf ernstlich und im herzlichen Gebete zu Gott miteinbeziehen, unsere Umstände und Verhältnisse mit denen Ihrer lieben Gemeinde vergleichen, und erwägen, die Gefahren einer Zertrennung unserer Gemeinde bedenken, wenn Sie den Beruf ausschlagen sollten, so müssen Sie vor Gott und seiner Kirche zu der Einsicht gelangen, dass unser an Sie gerichteter Beruf von Gott ist, und der Herr, der Erzhirte der Kirche, Sie in dieser Gemeinde haben will.

Wir stellen Ihnen ja nicht ruhige und gemütliche Tage in Aussicht, sondern Arbeit und Mühe wird auch hier Ihr Los sein. Allein Ihre Gaben und Kräfte werden hier ganz zu Ehre Gottes, zum Heil unsterblicher Seelen und zum gesegneten Gedeihen einer blühenden Gemeinde Jesu verwandt werden können.

Es wird nun herzlich gebeten, obige Gründe der lutherischen Gemeinde noch einmal vorlegen zu wollen. Es ist uns nicht darum zu tun, eine Schwestergemeinde in Not zu bringen, sondern wir wollen nur dem Fingerzeig Gottes folgen. Um Gütes Willen bitten wir deshalb die liebe Gemeinde, Sie in Frieden hierher zu lassen, und mögen Sie unter dem Schutze des Allerhöchsten bald in unserer Mitte sein.
