We commit him to the Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, that is, upon the three fundamental creeds of Christianity: the Augsburg Confession and its Apology, the Smalcald Articles and the two catechisms of Luther, and the Formula of Concord with the Visitation Articles, as unmanipulated and faithful expositions of the Word of God.

We assign to him, as far as possible, to teach the children, who attend the school, in all truthfulness in the Word of God and other necessary elementary science, according to the Christian school discipline and generally, to take care of the children that have been entrusted to him and submit in all things to the leadership and Supervision of the Pastor and the School board. Normally, he will have to teach the school lessons in the morning and in the afternoon, and not only the German but also the English language.

Likewise he will be assigned to take over the Cantor Service and fulfill it punctually, play the organ and under guidance of the Pastor adopt the way of the local church singing.

Overall, it is expected of him that he approaches the local peculiar circumstances with patience and serenity, and that he will uplift the entire community with his truly Christian deeds and in every aspect set the example.

On our part, we promise him, not only a free apartment and the following recorded salary, but also, that we will hold him dear and with respect as the teacher and educator of our youth and will approach him with due reverence.

His salary should be set in the way that it can be increased according to his performance. At the moment, we are only able to promise him that much that he will have, out of the school money, annually the sum of three hundred dollars specie or specie worth and from the income of the Cantor service about one hundred dollars specie or specie worth annually.

His travel expenses will be reimbursed after his arrival in Serbin.

May the Good Shepherd, who said “Feed my lambs” give his blessing to this all. Amen.

Wir verpflichten ihn auf die Bekenntnißschriften der evangelisch lutherischen Kirche, d.i. auf die alten drei Hauptsymbole der Christenheit, auf die Augsburgische Confeßion und deren Apologie, auf die Schmalkaldischen Artikel und die beiden Katechismen Luthers, auf die Concordienformel und die Visitationsartikel als eine ungefälschte und getreue Darlegung des Wortes Gottes.

Wir tragen ihm auf, die Kinder, welche die Schule besuchen, mit aller Treue im Worte Gottes und in andere nöthigen Elementarwißenschaften, so weit möglich, zu unterrichten, christlichen Schulzucht zu handhaben und überhaupt, so weit ihm anvertrauten Kinder herzliche Sorge zu tragen und in Allem sich der Leitung und Beaufsichtigung des Pastors und des Schulvorstandes zu unterwerfen. Den Schulunterricht wird er in der Regel Vormittags und Nachmittags zu ertheilen und nicht bloß die Deutsche, sondern auch die Englische Sprache zu lehren haben.

Zugleich wird ihm aufgegeben, daß er die Verrichtungen des Cantordienstes übernehme und punktlich besorge, die Orgel spiele und unter Anleitung des Pastors die hiesige Weise des Kirchengesanges sich aneigne.

Im Ganzen erwarten wir von ihm daß er auf die hiesigen eigenthümlichen Verhältniße mit Geduld und Gelaßenheit eingehe, die ganze Gemeinde durch einen wahrhaft christlichen Wandel erbaue und ihr in jeder Beziehung voranleuchte.

Dagegen versprechen wir ihm nicht nur freie Wohnung und den im Folgenden aufgezeigten Gehalt, sondern auch, daß wir ihn als den Lehrer und Erzieher unserer Jugend lieb und werth halten und ihm mit der schuldigen Ehrerbietung zu vorkommen wollen.

Sein Gehalt soll ihm in solcher Weise bestimmt werden, daß der Betrag deßelben nach Maßgabe seiner Leistungen auch steigen könne. Jetzt vermögen wir nur so viel voraus zu versichern, daß aus dem Schulgelde ihm die Summer von Drei Hundert Dollars Specie oder Specie werth jährlich heraus kommen und seine Einnahme von Cantordienst auf ungefähr Ein Hundert Dollars Specie oder Specie werth jährlich sich belaufen wird.

Das Reisegeld wollen wir ihm nach seiner Ankunft in Serbin erstatten.

Der gute Hirte, der gesagt „Weide meine Lämmer“ gebe zu Allem seinen Segen. Amen.
