The following contract between the Trustees of the evangelical Lutheran Church in Serbin, on the one hand, and the master masons Peter Fritsche and John Merting, on the other hand, has today been negotiated and concluded.

Peter Fritsche and John Merting, on the one hand, promise and obligate themselves hereby, to construct a stone church building for the local evangelical Lutheran church. It should be 70 feet long and 40 feet wide, the foundation wall three feet thick, as deep as it will be necessary, to the top surface of the walls 2 ½ feet thick 12 feet high, so that the height of the wall from the foundation should be 24 feet. The plaster on the outside can be rough, but inwardly it will be fine, brushed with lime.

Also, the masons are agreeing to provide their own helpers themselves, which is also included in the cost of the contract. The whole wall is to be finished and presented by the first of September of this year.

The Trustees of the congregation, Carl Lehmann, Carl Teinert, and John Dube, on the other hand, hereby promise and obligate themselves to provide all the materials to build the evangelical Lutheran Church, ie: stone, lime, sand, water, also all the necessary scaffolding wood and boards, and workers to build the scaffolding, along with carts and boxes, or also the necessary forging work. All construction material should be brought together from the 15th February to 8th of August this year, as it will be necessary for the construction.

Furthermore the Trustees promise to pay nine cents per cubic foot to Peter Fritsche and John Merting for plastering the walls. The payment should be made every two weeks. We promise the full payment of six cents per cubic foot when all the work will be completed in accordance with the Contract.

This legal contract was very carefully deliberated and signed by both parties.

Zwischen den Trustees der evangel. Lutherischen Kirche in Serbin einerseits und den Maurermeistern Peter Fritsche und Johann Märting anderseits ist heute folgender Contrackt verhandelt und abgeschlossen worden.

Peter Fritsche und Johann Märting einerseits versprechen und verbinden sich hiermit, für die hiesige evangl. Lutherische Gemeinde eine neue Kirche aufzumauern, dieselbe soll 70 Fuß lang und 40 Fuß breit sein, die Grundmauer 3 Fuß breit, so tief als es nothwendig sein wird, von der Oberfläche der Grundmauer soll die Mauer 2 ½ Fuß dik 12 Fuß hoch, von da 2 Fuß dick und 12 Fuß hoch sein, so daß die Höhe der Mauer ohne Grundmauer 24 Füß hoch sein soll. Der Putz kann auswendig grob, inwendig soll er aber fein sein, mit Kalk geputzt.

Auch sind die Maurer verbindlich die Handlanger selbst zu stellen, welches im Contrackt mit eingeschlossen ist. Die ganze Mauer soll den ersten September dieses Jahres fertig und aufgeführt sein.

Die Trustees der Gemeinde, Carl Lehmann, Carl Teinert und Johann Dube andererseits, versprechen und verbinden sich hiermit zum Bau der evangl. Lutherischen Kirche die ganze Baumaterialien zu liefern, als: Steine, Kalk, Sande, Wasser, so wie alles zum Gerüste nöthiges Holz und Bretter nebst Karren und Kasten oder auch zur Mauer nöthigen Schmiede-Arbeit und die zum Bau des Gerüstes nöthigen Hülfs-Arbeiter. Alles Baumaterial soll von dem 15ten Februar bis zum 8ten August dieses Jahres herangefahren sein, so wie es zum Bau erforderlich sein wird.

Ferner versprechen die Trustees dem Peter Fritsche und Johann Märting für das Mauern nebst Putz neun Cents per Cubick Fuß zu bezahlen, die Zahlung soll alle zwei Wochen erfolgen und zwar sechs Cents per Cubick Fuß, die volle Zahlung versprechen wir sobald die ganze Arbeit dem Contrackt gemäß volendet sein wird.

Dieser vorstehende Kontrackt ist von uns als beiden Partheien wohlbedächtig ausgefertigt und unterschrieben
