Baruth, 3) Saxony, village and knights estate, on Loebau Creek; county office, government district office, lower district court, and district military command are in Bautzen; 523 residents in 1910 census; post office, telegraph, passenger and freight train station: runs from Loebau to Radibor; civil registration office, Protestant parish church; electricity, brewery, mill, brick or tile factory. To the village: Schaef Bergschaeferei, railroad 1 km. away. To the knight’s estate: outlying farm of manor New Farm, railroad 1.5 km away.

Baruth:
1. Baruth is located in Bautzen county, northwest of Weissenberg
2. It is classified as a village, a rural community; since 1950 incorporated with Dubrauke; a market town from 1791 and 1840; lordship in 1234; castle in 1319; knight’s estate in 1600s and 1858.
3. Square type estate settlement, estate block corridor; 809 hectars in 1900.
4. Population - 1777: 4 resident lords, 20 peasant landowners, 29 small home owners; 1834: 438; 1871: 507; 1690: 465; 1910: 523; 1925: 533; 1939: 646; 1946: 713 residents (Sorbs 1885: 299; 1900: 279 residents)
5. In 1777 in Bautzen county; 1843 rural community district of Loebau; 1856 the district court is in Weissenberg; 1875 the government district office is in Bautzen.
6. In 1777 knight’s estate of Baruth held the manor
7. Parish church in 1537 and 1940; in the parish are Leipgen, Oberoelsa and Weigersdorf [1537] and 1654, until 1829; Buchwalde, Dubrauke, Kleinsaubernitz, Neudoerfel, Praschwitz and Wartha [1537], 1654 and 1900.
8. In Sorbian it is called Bart; Barat in 1234, Barot in 1378, and Barith about 1485.
