(From: Schoenau)
Translated by Ed Bernthal
There were, there were two girl friends
Who had one sweetheart together.
They each wove a small wreath for him
And each sent him the small wreath.
The daughter in the house sang happily over this
The servant girl cried very much.
‘Now give me, my friend, some good advice
What shall I do with these two girls.’
“Buy a small apple for each of them
So they might decide about you.”
The first one, the daughter in the house
Chose her loved one right away.
The second one, the servant girl
Chose her loved one at the same time.
The servant girl sang happily about this
The daughter in the house, cried very much.
“ ‘So be quiet, my friend, and don’t cry so much
You certainly have enough property and very much money.” ‘
“ “If you will let me have your loved one
I will give you half of my property.” “
“ “The half of my property and my money
As well as my young brother.” “
“ ‘I don’t want your young brother
And I don’t care about half of your money.” ‘
“’I don’t want half of your property
If I don’t get my loved one himself.” ‘
