65. Disturbed Rendezvous
(From: Koblenz)
Translated by Ed Bernthal
The youth drove through the town.
The girl was carrying water in
With her nice new cans
With her white hands.
‘Girl, set down your cans,
Give me your hand, God bless you!’
“God bless you, my most loved one
Come to my house for supper!”
“My brothers went to gather berries,
Wheat berries, young and fresh.”
The youth strode into the room
The brothers were sitting around the table.
Said the youngest to the oldest,
“Brother, draw out your sword,
He wants to have our sister,
That is surely worth his death.”
“He wants to have our sister,
But we will keep him from that.”
The youth turned toward the door
Quickly to flee from this place.
Behind him the girl called,
“Stay and wait, my loved one!
Stay and wait, you my loved one,
I will always be true to you.”
‘No, my young fresh life
I love, dear one, much too much.
My nice shiny gold colored horse
I love, dear one, yet much more.’
