A. 033. The Annual Fair

(From Lippen)
Translated by Joel R. Meador

Trotting, trotting along on four brown horses,
Wanting to return to Weissenberg.

Back to Weissenberg they came,
The horses going to the farm.

He went for a stroll at the market,
He bought something for his sweetheart at the fair,

A piece of cloth three feet long, for around a Thaler,
That is certainly a beautiful piece of cloth!

It’s going to become a pretty skirt,
With a pretty border on it.

Here you have, my lovely sweetheart,
The gift I give you from this year’s fair.

Remain unwaveringly true to me,
Until our wedding day.
