1. Přa-dła je Ma-rja ku-dźał-ku, ku-dźał-ku ži-dźa-nu;
prě-nju je ni-tku na-přa-dła, ku-dźał-ku do přa-dła.

2. Šiła je Marja košulku, košulku židźanu;
prěni je šowčik zešiła, košulku došiła.

3. Šła je tam Marja do cyrkwje, do cyrkwje božeje;
wona je paćerje spěwała, k bohu so modliła.

4. K njej stej tam přišłoj dušce dwě, stej so nutř kłapałoj.
Pušć naju, swjata Marija, nutř, kiž maćer Boža sy.

5. Nutř waju pušćić njemóžu, jandźelki rejuja
tu w swojich židźanych košulkach, we wěnčkach zelenych.

6. Marja tam reje wjedźeše ze swojim dźěćatkom.
Tak wona Bohu su lubješe. Jandželki spěwachu.

1. Mary was spinning a tuft, a silken tuft;
She span the first thread, she finished spinning the tuft.

2. Mary was sewing a shirt, a silken shirt;
She sewed the first seam, she finished sewing the shirt.*

3. Mary went to the church, to the church of God;
She was saying her prayers, she prayed to God.

4. To her there came two souls, they knocked to come in.
Let us in, Saint Mary, who art the mother of God.

5. I cannot let you in, the angels are dancing
Here in their silk shirts, in their green crowns.

6. Mary led the dancing there with her child,
God liked her so much. The angels sang.

* Translator’s note: the implied sense is ‘As soon as she had sewn the first seam, she had [miraculously] finished the shirt’. Similarly in stanza 1.
