St. Paul Lutheran Church serves over 1,000 dinners

St.Paul Lutheran Church of Serbin was privileged to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the organization this past Sunday, June 24. A great day of rejoicing was spent by the over 2,000 who attended. Over 1,000 plates were served for the noon barbeque and the youth served near 700 for the evening meal of hamburgers.

Those who attended joined in thanking a gracious God for the 125 years of blessings He showered on St. Pauls. Four services were held during the day. Pastor Paul Hartfield, present Pastor of the congregation, officiated at the morning English and German services. The afternoon service was attended by nearly 1,000 people. Rev. Alfred Prellop and Rev. Herbert Driessner, both sons of the congregation, served as liturgists. Rev. Theo. Schmidt, a son of the congregation brought the Wendish anniversary message, while Rev. Arthur Arndt, a former pastor of the congregation, delivered the German anniversary message. The Rev. Glenn O’Shoney, president of the Texas District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, preached the English Anniversary Sermon. Special Choirs sang songs of Praise in Wendish, German and English.

During the day many people enjoyed the large exhibit of Wendish and German articles put on display by the Wendish Heritage Society.

The evening service was attended by over 500 people and consisted of a slide and song service about the history of St. Paul Congregation. Historical booklets concerning the history of St Paul Cong. are still available.

St. Paul congregation wishes to thank all who came to join them in praising the Lord for all the wonderful things He has done for them in the 125 years they have been a congregation. Special thanks to Peter Willie and Keith Loomans who helped with the closed circuit television and the slide presentation.

The 125th Anniversary Committee also thanks all members of St. Paul who in any way helped to make this day the great success that it was.
