Blackwood's Edinburg Magazine published a series of articles (four in number) in 1844 titled "Traditions and Tales of Upper Lusatia."

"These articles contain some of the tales as well as commentaries about the fairy legends found in Sagen und Märchen aus der Oberlausitz written by Erich Willkomm (1843). The author comes from the area around Zittau, where he returned at the end of his life. Since his student days in Leipzig, he has written novellas and novels. He lived in Hamburg for many years, raised a family there and wrote for various newspapers and publishers.

His book contains five fairy tales (four of which are found below) which should be counted among his poetry. It means, they are from his pen. For the stories he used some narratives well-known in south-eastern Upper Lusatia, especially from the Zittau region. But they cannot be described as Sorbian folk tales. He explicitly distances himself from Sorbian traditions in the introduction." (Susanne Hose, Sorbian Institute)
