Dearly Beloved!

Thereby you have entrusted me with the office as an evangelical Lutheran teacher, so appointed me as a teacher for your beloved young people, you devolved to me a difficult office. But in the eyes of our God and in those of his enlightened children the office as an evangelical Lutheran congregation school teacher is a high and glorious office. It is not just a glorious office because it is carried out at the children highly honored and loved by God, but rather also hence, because each single office performance serves the achievement of a unutterable high purpose, and even becomes more valuable through the method, which gets applied in particular. On our children God has begun his work, they are vindicated, reborn and blessed by the baptism. The restoration of the likeness of God started with this shall be continued with them. In order that this will be achieved, the children must primarily be taught in the Word of God, which alone shows us the way to the blessedness. From the same they must learn to recognize, which high goods, which precious treasure they received through the baptism, that they learn from the Word of God to lead a god-abiding life, to serve the neighbors and to praise God with this. But in order that the children are more skillful to lead a god-abiding life and to serve the neighbors, that is why beside the Word of God they are taught in reading, writing, calculating etc. But these do not get taught in order that they in their later age learn to make money more easily, just to become rich or to serve themselves with this, because that would be cursed if one would teach in an evangelical Lutheran congregation school the natural sciences, reading, writing, calculating etc. for the purpose that the children could use this for their own benefit in that way, that they would not want to make it all tributary to the faith and the love. No! It will and must be carried out in order that the children learn to lead a god-abiding life in which they serve their neighbors to the praise and the glory of God. Because nobody lives just to let others serve him, but that he serves. In order that this now will be achieve according to the will of God, so, dear parents, let’s make our children daily express a prayer and supplication to the one, who has given away his life to the death for us all, but the Holy Ghost give us strength, courage and steadiness, that we endeavor to comply with his will, and raise our children in the discipline and admonition of the Lord. Once in eternity God will reveal, what here is prayed, supplicated and acted in secrecy. Glory, honor and praise to him in eternity. Amen.

Meine Theuersten!

Sie haben mir dd dss Sie mir das Amt eines ev. l. Lehrers anvertraut, mich also zum Lehrer Ihrer l. Jugend beriefen, ein schweres Amt übertragen. Doch in den Augen unseres Gottes u. in denen seiner erleuchteten Kinder ist das Amt eines ev. l. Gemeindeschullehrers ein hohes herrliches Amt. Nicht nur desshalb ist es ein herrliches Amt, weil es an u. von Gott hochgeehrten u. geliebten Kinder ausgerichtet wird, sondern auch vielmehr desshalb, weil jede einzelne Amtsverrichtung zur Erreichung eines unaussprechlich hohen Zweckes dient, und wird noch wertvoller durch das Mittel, welches dabei besonders in Anwendung kommt. An unsren Kindern hat Gtt sein Werk angefangen, sie sind d die Taufe gerechtfertiget, wiedergeb. u. selig gemacht. Die damit angefangene Wiederherstellung des Ebenbildes Gtts soll in ihnen fortgeführt werden. Damit dieses erreicht werde, müssen die Kinder vornehmlich in Gttswort unterrichtet werden, welches uns ja nur allein den Weg zur Seligkeit zeigt. Sie müssen aus denselben erkennen lernen, welche hohe Güter, welch theuren Schatz sie d die h. Taufe empfangen haben, dss sie aus dem Worte Gtts lernen ein gottselig Leben führen dem Nächsten zu dienen u. Gtt damit zu loben. Damit aber die Kinder desto geschickter sind ein gottselig Leben zu führen u. dem Nächsten zu dienen, desshalb wird ihnen auch außer Gttswort Lesen, Schreiben Rechnen u. s. w. gelehrt. Diese wird ihnen aber nicht desshalb gelehrt, damit sie in ihrem späteren Alter desto leichter Geld machen lernen nur reich zu werden od. überhaupt sich selbst damit zu dienen, denn das wäre verflucht, wollte man in einer ev. l. Gemeindeschule die sogenannten Realien, Lesen, Schreiben, Rechnen u. s. w. zu dem Zwecke lehren, damit die Kinder dies zu ihrem eigenen Nutzen anwenden könnten, dergestalt, dass sie es nicht Alles dem Glauben u. der Liebe unterthänig machen wollten. Nein! Es wird u. muss desshalb getrieben werden, damit die Kinder lernen ein gottselig Leben führen, in welchem sie ihrem Nächsten Gott zu Lobe u. Preise dienen. Denn Niemand lebt desshalb, dass er ihm dienen lasse, sondern dss er diene. Damit nun dieses dem Willen Gottes gemäss erreicht werde, so lasst uns, liebe Eltern, unsren lieben Kindern täglich ein Gebet u. Flehen dem wiedergeben, der für uns Alle sein Leben in den Tod dahingegeben, der h. Geist aber gebe uns Kraft, Muth u. Beständigkeit, dass wir seinem Willen nachzukommen uns bestreben, u. unsre Kinder in der Zucht und Vermahnung zum Herrn aufziehen. Gott wird es einst in Ewigkeit offenbar machen, was hier im Verborgenen gebetet, gefleht und gearbeitet ist. Ihm sei Ruhm, Ehre u. Preis in Ewigkeit. Amen
