To the Hon. Legislature of the State of Texas:

Your memorialists, the undersigned citizens of their respective counties of Washington, Burleson, Bastrop, and Fayette, respectfully memorialize your Hon. Body on the subject of a new county which they pray may be formed of the western end of Burleson county, the western end of Washington county, the eastern portion of Bastrop county, and the northeastern portion of Fayette county.

Your memorialists represent that they reside in the designated portions of their said respective counties, that the extreme western end of Washington county is forty two miles from Brenham, the county seat of said county; that the extreme western end of Burleson county is forty eight miles from Caldwell, the county seat of said county; that the extreme eastern portion of Bastrop county is twenty seven miles from Bastrop, the county seat of said county; and that the extreme northeastern portion of Fayette County is twenty five miles from La Grange, the county seat of said county.

That they are necessarily compelled to attend at the county seat of their respective counties frequently during the year as jurors, as witnesses, as parties litigant, and on business connected with the registration of deeds; that in going to their respective county seats your memorialists have to travel from twelve to forty-eight miles, and that, by reason of the distance, their attendance subjects them to considerable trouble and no small expense of both time and money.

Your memorialists further represent that the qualified jurors within the limits of the proposed new county greatly exceed one hundred and fifty in number, and that the qualified jurors remaining in each of said counties from which it is proposed to form said new county, greatly exceed one hundred and fifty in number.

Your memorialists further represent that they are informed and believe that the present area of Washington county is seven hundred and twenty-six square miles and that after giving of the portion of her territory proposed to be incorporated in said new she will still contain over six hundred square miles; that the present area of Burleson county is nine hundred and seventy six square miles and that after giving off the portion of her territory proposed to be incorporated in said new county, she will still have over seven hundred square miles; that the present area of Bastrop county is one thousand and one square miles, and that after taking off the portion of her territory proposed to be incorporated in said new county, she will still contain more than nine hundred square miles; that the present area of Fayette county is one thousand and twenty-five square miles and that after taking off the portion of her territory proposed to be incorporated in said new county, she will still contain considerably more than nine hundred square miles.

Your memorialists further represent that they are advised that it is the peculiar prerogative of your Honorable Body to establish new counties for the convenience of the inhabitants thereof. They therefore pray you to establish for them a new county called Lee with an area and boundary line as shown on the map accompanying this memorial and made a part of the same. And they will ever pray to.[sic]
