B. 008. Sweet Dreams

(from Burk and Schmogrew)
Translated by H. Melvin Symmank

Keeping his steed on the way,
Always yet on toward Faehro I saw.

There appeared to me clear before the cottage,
That my beautiful sweetheart came to me.

Walking around in the green grove,
The birds sang there big and small.

We sat down and to listen,
A rose fell on my shoe.

As the rose is red and beautiful,
So also to behold my sweetheart.

As sleep overcomes me at evening,
Ah I dreamed! So sweet, so sweet.

That my beautiful sleeps here,
Here at me right side.

She embraces me so tenderly and hold,
All my thoughts she wants to know.

Soft is her white hand,
As a pillow of silk and velvet.

Red rose, green “Pfefferkraut,”
This is my sweetheart, I have seen her.

There is no music for this song.
