A. 310. The Evening

(From Lohsa)
Translated by Ed Bernthal

Saturday will start tomorrow,
A day of hope for a poor man.

He butchered for himself a rooster,
And hung it on the gate.

A raven came flying by,
And tore off the best piece for himself.

He flew with it into the forest,
And cut himself some wheels;

With them he drove to the fine market,
And bought carnations for his girls;

One for each girl,
Two for his sweetheart.
