The youth would like to be free.
Everybody talks about what he wants,
But no one wants to be his lover.

The youth likes to take pride in himself,
Dances himself into hell,
And there he smokes his pipe.

The youth likes to drink beer and wine,
Pours himself the twelfth glass.
His lover sews him a small shirt.

The youth like to play,
Often sits down to feast,
Almost chokes, when he has to pay.

The youth wants to go dancing
Lets himself be poured a drink for a penny,
And at the dance gets into a fight.

The youth would like to accompany a sweetheart.
The honor would not be a small thing for him,
Just to accompany her half the way.

The youth gets whatever he can.
He knocks on all the doors
But he is blocked at each one.
