Lětopis Abstract 2021 1: Fiebiger, Evelyn: Study of a Slavonic Folk Song from Papers Left by Karl Eduard Hering
The Town Museum contains in the papers left by the composer, Karl Eduard Hering (1807-1879), who worked for many years in Bautzen, a sheet of paper,
headed with the title, a “Slavonic Folk Song”, from 1846, which presents a composition, based on the text of a Southern Slav folk song, “Nemam mira ni
pokoja”, and which contains his own version in German. The text is clearly not original, but is blended together with a well known folk song, “Kad te
vidim na sokaku”; a version of this song by Adolf Grünhold was published in the journal Das Ausland a few months previously. This discovery
in the archives provides evidence of K. A. Kocor’s interest in contemporary popular Southern Slav folklore as a music teacher.
