(from Foerstchen)
Translated by H. Melvin Symmank

At the castle stands a golden chestnut,
completely in silk and velvet.

Yes completely in silk and velvet,
completely prepared to fight,

Is bridled with a golden bridle,
Girded with a golden belt.

The sweetheart saddled the horse,
The maid strapped the travel bag.

'When will you now came back again,
My dearest treasure?'

"When the nightingale will sing,
Sitting on the high sea."

"And when the cuckoo will scream
At the hardest wintertime:" ---

"Then I give none other my word
And one should stand by it."
