Translated by Ed Bernthal

Saint Mary spun a coat,
A fine satin coat;
She pulled out the first thread,
And the coat was finished.

Saint Mary sewed a shirt,
A fine satin shirt;
The first night she was sewing,
The shirt was finished.

Saint Mary went to church,
Into God’s church;
There in the church she prayed
Pleading to her God.

Two souls came to her,
Who wanted to come in:
‘Saint Mary, let us in
Mary, Mother of God.’

“I can’t let you in here,
The angels are dancing here,
Dancing in their silken shirts,
In their green wreaths.”

Saint Mary led the dance
With her children,
This pleased God the Lord;
The angels followed her.
